ACT in Action: Applying Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to Support Recovery from Substance Use Disorders

March 24 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Recovery from substance use disorders is more than just abstinence. Instead, it must build on a foundation of what it means to live a personally meaningful, value-driven life while navigating cravings, stigma, and many times both emotional and physical pain. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) offers a flexible, evidence-supported framework for supporting long-term recovery by increasing psychological flexibility rather than focusing solely on symptom elimination.

This interactive virtual workshop introduces participants to the core processes of ACT and how to apply them in substance use disorder treatment and recovery support services. Participants will explore experiential exercises and practical tools to help clients relate differently to cravings, shame, trauma responses, and setback experiences. The workshop will emphasize person-centered, trauma-informed, and individualized approaches that align with recovery-oriented systems of care.

Participants will leave with concrete strategies they can immediately integrate into clinical practice and recovery support services.

Participants will be required to have their camera on for 90 percent of the workshop as well as participate in all activities in order to earn a Statement of Completion or CEUs.
